Head Coach: Jan-Yu Weng

Coach Jan-Yu Weng, is the elder son of Dr. Chi-hsiu Weng, and a 6th degree Black belt in Shuai-chiao. He has trained with his father since the age of 7 and has contributed to the growth of Shuai-chiao internationally as a champion competitor, teacher of teachers, Team USA Coach, official/judge, and leader of the United States Shuai-chiao Association.
Some notable personal achievements as a Shuai-chiao competitor have included:
- Four time U.S. Shuai-chiao national champion – Undefeated in Nationals
- 1st place 1992 Paris Mayor’s Cup Shuaijiao International
- 2nd place 1995 Paris Mayor’s Cup Shuaijiao International
- 3rd Place 2003 St. EDENW Cup Beijing Yanging Shuaijiao International, Badaling
As a team captain and group leader, Coach Jan-Yu has had the opportunity to be the Team Captain of numerous successful USA teams that have competed in Brazil, China, France, and Taiwan. These teams have been pioneers in the Shuai-chiao world with a team of national champions representing the U.S. and spreading the art of Shuai-chiao internationally. Coach has led these teams as a competitor and coach as well as group leader serving as the key executive into the tournament committee chairs and other organizational leaders.
Coach Jan-Yu has also used his Shuai-chiao skills to compete in San-shou (full contact). In his rare appearances in the ring, he has placed 1st, 95 C.A.A.T (Cupertino, CA), 1st, 1996 Martial Arts Extravaganza(Phoenix, AZ) and 2nd place 1996 USAWKF Nationals and qualifying tourrnament for the USA San-shou team (San Francisco, CA).
Coach Jan-Yu has also appeared in the cover of Kung-fu Magazine and Black Belt Magazine with Dr. Weng featuring Shuai-chiao. Coach Jan-Yu has also been on several videos with Dr. Weng on Shuai-chiao and Tai-chi.
Currently, Coach Jan-Yu is the head coach at the Cupertino Kung-fu Club, President and Board member of the United States Shuai-chiao Association. As one of the original coaches at the Cupertino Kung-fu Club since 1989, Coach Jan-Yu has put his heart and soul in the club through teaching Shuai-chiao. His accomplishments can be seen in the national champions and black belts that have been earned, and finally, the positive impact in his students’ lives.
